   Mr. Kenneth Lyman Abbott, 89, of 800 South 22nd Street, Quincy, passed away on Sunday ( March 11, 2012) in his home attended by his family and hospice.

   Born November 22, 1922 in Quincy, Ken was the son of Earl and Erma Haxel Abbott. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Sloan, in June 1944 and they shared 60 wonderful years together. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2004.

   Ken was a member of Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39, Quincy Valley 32nd Degree Masons AASR, Elks Lodge No.100, U.C.T and the United Association for over 50 years. He was a member of the Plumber & Pipefitters Union Local No. 25 for his adult life.

   Ken loved his family and was very interested in their careers, pursuits, endeavors and avocations. He enjoyed a plethora of activities including bowling, golfing, hunting, fishing. He was an avid reader and student of semantics. Up to the date of his death he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, sudoku and word games. Ken never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

   Mr. Abbott was employed by Seither & Cherry Industrial Contractors as a Pipefitter over 35 years where he supervised and worked on many commercial jobs in Quincy and the tristate area. He retired in 1980.

   Survivors include a son, Kenneth Lee Abbott and his wife Leslie of Quincy; a daughter, Pamela Abbott Rawlings of Palm Harbor, FL; a granddaughter, Christine Schnarr Chiarello of New Jersey; Grandsons, Matthew, Mark and Luke Abbott of Kansas City, MO and James E Schnarr, Jr of St. Louis, MO; a sister, Shirley Abbott Merkel and her husband Russell of Quincy. In addition, he cared deeply for his seven great grandchildren, Tess and Anthony L Chiarello of New Jersey, Paige and Brooke Schnarr of St Louis, Elizabeth and Carter Abbott, of Kansas City, currently residing in California and Samuel Abbott of Kansas City.

   Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice; two sisters, Mary Goessling of Moberly, MO, and Joanne Reynolds of Glendale, WI; and brother, William Abbott of Quincy.

   Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Abbott. Memorial services will be held for Ken and his wife Bernice on Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Wanda Seydel. Inurnment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice and Quincy Valley 32nd Degrees Masons AASR.
