   Mr. Gary E. Hipkins "Pappy", 77, of 2265 East 1100th Street, Mendon, Illinois, formerly of 833 Van Buren, Quincy died at 8:00 p.m. Sunday (April 15, 2012) in his home.

   Born July 2, 1934,  in Hannibal, Missouri, Gary was the son of Herbert R. and Zelma Gaile Draper Hipkins. He married Carol S. Coyle on August 7, 1953 in Quincy. She survives.

   Gary was a 1953 graduate of Quincy High School. He was a member of Union Local No. 330. He coached Little League Football and volunteered at the Quincy Humane Society. Pappy enjoyed watching football, fishing, hunting and dancing. He especially liked to listen to Blues music and attending the Blues Festivals. Pappy served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Combat. He served on the Carrier USS Princeton and the Destroyer USS Bradford.  

   Pappy was an over the road truck driver for 50 years, driving last for the CCX Trucking Co. in Keokuk, IA. He retired in 2000.

   Survivors include his wife Carol; two sons, G. Dean Hipkins (Darlene) of Mendon and L.Todd Hipkins (Jina) of Coatsburg; seven grandchildren, Hannah Hipkins of Coatsburg, Bonnie Peters (Chris), Jennifer Hipkins (Tim Black), Tony Hipkins all of Genoa, Il, Jeremey Wallace, Patrick Wallace, Katherine "Katy" Veile all of Quincy and eleven great grandchildren.

   Mr. Hipkins was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Linda Sue Wallace and a great grandson Anthony James Hipkins.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Allen officating. Military Honors will follow by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail at the funeral home.

   Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
