MERVIN G. BURGESS

   Mervin G. Burgess, 71, of Quincy, died at 11:25 p.m. Friday (October 9, 2015) at his home.

   Born June 11, 1944 in Keokuk, Iowa, Mervin was son of Albert G. and Lena Maxine Hatfield Burgess.  On February 26, 1964 Mervin married Darlene R. Hamelton in Palmyra, Missouri.  She survives.  

   Mervin was especially fond of woodworking, league bowling and coaching summer league baseball league when his children and the neighborhood children were playing.  He was an avid Cardinals Baseball and St. Louis Rams Football fan.  Mervin played the bass in the Don Kay and the Blue Knights Band for several years. Mervin proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  

   Mervin was known as a jack of all trades, working as an auto body repair man, industrial roofer, and in flooring and general construction. He also operated a construction company with his sons.  
  
   Survivors include his wife, Darlene Burgess of Quincy; three sons, Kevin Burgess (Sandra) of Quincy, Anthony Burgess (Donita) of Payson, IL and Brian Burgess (Dawne) of Melvindale, MI; three daughters, Angela Montgomery (Terry) of Hannibal, MO, Teresa Burgess (Kent Spratt) of Payson, IL and Annette Morris (Damian) of East Moline, IL; family foster daughter, Pamela Hanson (Steven) of Moline, IL; thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Paul Buehl (Carol) of Moline, IL, Ray Buehl (Cindy) of Morning Sun, IA and Gary Burgess (Julie) of Keokuk, IA; five sisters, Barbara Jordan of Moline, IL, Linda Hipshur (Wallace) of Muscatine, IA, Bonnie Florie (Jim) of Quincy, IL, Alberta Thompson of Ft. Madison, IA and Debbie Burgess of Keokuk, IA; and many loving nieces and nephews.  

Mervin was preceded in death by parents; six brothers, Carl Dean Burgess, Albert LaVerne Burgess, Robert Buehl, Albert Alfonso Burgess, Alvin Buehl and Michael Buehl; and one sister, Penny Lois Duncan.  

    Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 in the Keokuk National Cemetery with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps Funeral Detail.  

   Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.  

   Memorials may be made to the Marine program Toys for Tots.
