Virgil Dale Alcorn, 79, of Quincy, died peacefully at 10:36 p.m. Wednesday (February 3, 2016) in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born August 6, 1936 in Newmansville, Illinois, Dale was the son of  Virgil T. and Pauline Matthew Alcorn.  He married Judith "Judy" Tenk on October 23, 1965 in Quincy.  She survives.

Dale served his country in the U. S. Army stationed in Germany.

Dale had attended Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34, Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39 and Quincy Consistory.

An avid fisherman, Dale also loved to read, working on cars, eating good food, and staying physically active by working outdoors. He enjoyed going to the river to watch the eagles and loved traveling by car so he could see the countryside. He loved going to Minnesota and Texas and was proud of having been to all 50 States. Dale will be remembered by his family as a true "jack of all trades", being able to help others with just about any problem.

Dale was employed with CIPS/Ameren for 43 years, retiring as a foreman. One job was never enough for Dale though, while working at CIPS he served as co-owner of the Royal Oaks Mobile Home Park in Quincy (and currently still is) and was a partner with Night Shift Auto Sales.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Judy; two daughters, Jennifer Alcorn (John Barrett) of Louisburg, MO and Christina Alcorn of Collingswood, N.J.; a granddaughter, Caitlin Alcorn (T. J. Myers) of Quincy; a great grandson, Tyler Myers of Quincy; a brother, Darrel Alcorn (Jane Barnes) of Pekin, IL; a niece, Maggie Classen (Jeff) of Bartonville, IL; an aunt, Elizabeth Smith of Virginia, IL; and many cousins and brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces and nephews from Judy's side of the family.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and an aunt, Lois Achue.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.  Herman Masonic Lodge No. 39 will conduct Masonic Services at 7:00 Sunday evening at the funeral home.  Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.

Memorial services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Greg Javaux.  Inurnment with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
