   Mary Lou Doan, 89, of Quincy, died at 11:09 p.m. Monday (September 26, 2016) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born August 23, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri, Mary Lou was the daughter of William and Ruby Helen Kennedy Smith. In 1947, while on the El Capitan train to California, Mary Lou caught the eye of  young Marine, Charles Clayton "Charlie" Doan. They bumped into each other again while in California and for the next year and a half kept in touch. Mary Lou and Charlie were married on September 3, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri and celebrated 67 years of marriage.

   Mary Lou loved being an active member of her community. She was a Brownie Leader and Girl Scout Leader, was active with PTA serving as a Room Mother and was a member a women's stock investment club, Adams County Women's Republican Club and the Salvation Army Auxiliary where she was involved with the Dress an Angel program.  An avid golfer, Mary Lou also enjoyed trap shooting, bowling in various leagues over the years, playing Bridge and Gin Rummy, reading and especially loved tending to her flower gardens.  Mary Lou loved traveling, seeing the country with Charlie and made a journey to Europe, visiting Italy, France, England and Scotland.

   Mary Lou will be remembered by her family as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who cherished the time she spent with them.

   Mary Lou was employed at the Emery Bird Department Store in Kansas City and then as a Realtor in Decatur, Illinois. She was employed with the State of Illinois at the Driver's License Facility in Quincy for a short time.

   Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Charles; four children, Clay Doan of Lone Oak, TX, Janet Green and her husband, Rob of Quincy, Jeff Doan of Quincy and Beverly Kim Helkey  and her husband, Steven of Quincy; three granddaughters, Whitney Giesing and her husband, Eric of Washington, DC, Natalie Rossmiller and her fiance', Travis Schwartz of Davie, FL and Hope Rossmiller of Columbia, MO; four step-grandchildren, Lane Clark and her husband, Brian of Pocahontas, AR, Alison Kelly and her husband, Patrick of Phoenix, AZ, Caitlin Green of Quincy and Ross Green of Colorado Springs, CO;  a step-great grandson, Brantley Clark; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Doan was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Fred Smith and Jack Smith; and a sister, Juanita Curth.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Major Andrew Miller Jr. officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Dress an Angel program.
