   Craig Cheney, 56, of Loraine, Illinois, died at 7:00 a.m. Friday (June 16, 2017) in his home.

   Born November 30, 1960 in Quincy, Craig was the son of David L. and Joyce Stabler Cheney. Following his mother's death in 1968, his father married Charlotte Woods Gastler in 1970 who Craig alway thought of as his mom.  He married Leanne Phillips on September 9, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She survives.

   Craig was a 1979 graduate of Southeastern High School where he was class President and a 3 year letterman and starting guard for the Suns Basketball Team. He attended Trenton Junior College where he played basketball and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business at Missouri Western University.

   Craig was active in his community, serving as a former member and Past President of the St. Albans Township Board. He enjoyed learning the local history of his community, loved music trivia, was an fan of the music group, The Eagles and the TV show M*A*S*H, and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

   Craig's passion was also his job, as a cattle producer of Gelbvieh and Balancer cattle.  He was active with R-Calf  where he was honored as Cattleman of the Year.

     Survivors include his wife, Leanne; a sister, Davette Cheney of  Bowen, IL; two brothers, Dana Cheney (Paula) of San Antonio, TX and Richard Gastler (Gayla) of West Point, IL; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins; a close family friend, Dorothy Willard of West Point, IL; and his best buddy and faithful companion, Jake.

   Craig was preceded in death by his parents.

   Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Bowen Cemetery, Bowen, Illinois.

    Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

   Memorials may be made to the Bowen Cemetery Association.
