   Matthew W. Keller Jr., 89, of Quincy, died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday (September 13, 2017) in the house where he was raised.

   Born June 26, 1928 in Quincy, Matthew  was the son of Matthew and Dorothy Cook Keller Gosney. He married Anna "Ann" Wisman on September 7, 1952 in Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church.

    Mr. Keller proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955 as a mechanic on Okinawa Island. He was a lifelong and very active  member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Sunday School Teacher, a Deacon, and Church Treasurer. He served as the Melrose Township Road Commissioner for 32 years from 1960 to 1993, and also served as Township Trustee from 1993 until 2017.  

     Matthew graduated and received his diploma from Hickory Grove one room school house through the 8th grade on 36th and Deer Ridge Road. He later received his GED. He served as a board member on the Adams County Farm Service Agency. He and Ann delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.

     Mr. Keller farmed raising hogs, cattle and grain on a his family's Centennial farm.  

      Survivors include his wife Ann of 65 years; two daughters, Sarah Keller (Howard Ilivicky) of St. Louis, and Nancy McNeilly (Steve) of Quincy; one son Paul M. Keller (Jeanie); seven grandchildren, Courtney Keller Barboza (Pierre), Whitney Keller Michels (Scott), Steven P. McNeilly, Devin P. McNeilly (Teri), Isaac Ilivicky, Anna Ilivicky and Samuel Ilivicky; seven great grandchildren, Keller, Owen, Matthew, Ruth, Emma, Ramsy and Aislynn; two sisters, Mary Lou Reinebach and Phyllis Heindselman.

      Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, his step father Roy W. Gosney, an infant son, two brothers in law, William "Bill" Reinebach and Russell "Russ" Heindselman.

      A celebration of life for Matthew will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 at Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ron Cox officiating. Military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail with Taps to be played by Dr. Brennan Reed. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

     Visitation will be held Saturday morning from 9:00 am until the time of services at the church.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church, Chaddock School, or Camp Callahan.
