   Mr. Johnnie L. Shaffer, 57, of Quincy, died at 8:20 p.m. Thursday (December 29, 2011) in his home.

   Born February 22, 1954 in Quincy, Johnnie was the son of William M. and Loney Belle Jackson Shaffer. He married Carol L. Irwin Thomas on August 21, 1987 in LaGrange, Missouri. She survives.

   Mr. Shaffer was of the Catholic Faith.  An avid fisherman and hunter who loved to bow hunt turkey and deer, Johnnie also enjoyed going to the casino and being with his beloved dog and faithful companion, Toby.

   Johnnie was employed by the City of Quincy Street Department for over 22 years, retiring in September, 2011 due to ill health.

   Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Lindsay L. Shaffer (Andrew) of Camp Point, IL; two step daughters, Kathy Brassfield and Angela Thomas both of Quincy; six step grandchildren, Ashlyn Brassfield, Alecia Brassfield, Colby Brassfield, Gage Hagen, Jayde Hagen, and Shayne Graham all of Quincy; four brothers, Wilbur C. Shaffer of Quincy, Frederick W. Shaffer (Connie) of Quincy, William M. Shaffer of Fowler, IL and Willie R. Shaffer (Judy) of Loraine, IL; six sisters, Maria Owens (Charles) of Pittsfield, IL, Hilda Spidle of Quincy, Pansie S. Schroder (Howard) of Quincy, Carolyn S. Masterson of Mendon, IL, Mary M. Schroeder (Gary) of Danville, IL and Frances M. Campbell (Jeff) of Coatsburg, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Shaffer was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and three sisters.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Richard Martin and Rev. John Kennedy.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, Quincy Humane Society or the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia, Missouri.

I am so, so sorry for your loss, Johnnie was one of the nicest people we have ever known. We loved his humor, and his passion for the land, his dedication to hunting and mushrooming. He will be very sadly missed. Remember, we are here for you all. God Bless.
