   John G. Potts, 80, of 2106 Cherry Lane Estates South, Quincy, died at 4:35 am Sunday (February 5, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born May 21, 1931 in Quincy, John was the son of Walter R. and Lena R. Kattelman Potts.  He married Ardath Ann Fleer on October 6, 1956 in Ursa, Illinois.  She survives.

   John was a 1949 graduate of Quincy High School.  He was a member of the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Retired Firefighters Club.  He enjoyed reading and being with family and visiting with his friends.  Mr. Potts served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

   Mr. Potts was a Fire Fighter for the Quincy Fire Department for 30 years retiring in 1986 as a Fire Inspector in the Fire Prevention Bureau with the rank of Lieutenant.

   Survivors include his wife, Ardath; two sons, John K. Potts and his wife Kelly of Quincy and Douglas K. Potts and his wife Lauri of Arlington, TX; three grandchildren, Katelyn Potts and Kendall Potts both of Arlington, TX and Troy Potts of Quincy; one brother, Donald L. Potts and his wife Rita of Katy, TX; two sisters, Berniece Rabe of Quincy and Barbara Gustafson and her husband Kerry of Newport, NC; two brothers in law, Bill Fleer and his wife Melonie and Leo Herzog and his wife Dee both of Quincy; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

   Mr. Potts was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Walter J. Potts; one sister, Betty Lou Herzog; a daughter in law, Lori Potts; a sister in law, Betty Potts; and a brother in law, Carl Rabe.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.

   Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

  Memorials may be made to the Blessing Cancer Center.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, and especially my childhood friend and John's sister, Barb. I remember John as a warm and funny guy who teased us and made us laugh. He will be missed as a great member of our community and a really good guy!
