   Mr. William Eldon Booth, 82, of Mendon, Illinois, died at 5:02 a.m. Sunday (March 4, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born February 18, 1930 in Hancock County, Illinois, Eldon was the son of William A. and Rosie Hurt Booth. He married LouElla Burkett on September 27, 1953 in Keokuk, Iowa. She survives.

   Eldon was a former member of the Lion's Club. His passion was music, especially bluegrass music. Eldon and LouElla traveled in their motor home to many bluegrass festivals and was instrumental in starting the country music shows held in Plymouth, Illinois for many years. Eldon was also a skilled carpenter and woodworker, making a dulcimer, banjo and violin. Mr. Booth served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War recieving 3 Korean service medals with 3 bronze stars.

   Eldon was previously empolyed at Carthage College and operated the bowling alley in Carthage. He was a Shift Head and Lock and Dam Operator for the Army Corps of Engineers for 30 years at Lock and Dam 21, retiring in 1992.

   Survivors include his wife, LouElla; a brother, Warren Booth of Rialto, CA; and nieces and nephews, Susan Harness (Hugh), Janie Shipman (Doug), Carolyn Rector (Dave), Randy St. Clair, Richard St. Clair, Theresa Booth, Richard Shinn, Gary Shinn, Mark Shinn, Melinda Sargent (Richard) and Ardith Pettis (Rick).

   Mr. Booth was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde Booth; and three sisters, Polly Marsden, Nora Johnson and Merlie Shinn.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Andy Rector.

   Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
