LOWELL  E.  McGLAUGHLIN

   Mr. Lowell E. McGlaughlin, 87, of 1100 St. Charles Drive, Quincy, died at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 2012) in Sunset Home.

   Born June 4, 1924 in Plainville, Illinois, Lowell was the son of Ernest and Hortense McNutt McGlaughlin. He married Mary Fisher on February 16, 1944 in Hillsboro, Illinois. She preceded him in death on January 31, 1985.  He married Marian Schutte on May 10, 1986 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on October 13, 2009.

   Lowell was a member of Union United Methodist Church and with his wife Marian, attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he was active with the 60 and Over Club. He was also active with the Knights of Columbus and loved helping others by volunteering at Good Samaritan Home. Mr. McGlaughlin served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II.

   Lowell worked as a carpenter for the Carpenter's Joiners of America Local 189 from 1953 until his retirement in 1987.  

   Survivors include a daughter, Judy Naderhoff (Kelly) of Quincy; two step daughters, Judy Huseman (Dave) and Leanne Hollensteiner (Dan "Hoggie") both of Quincy; a step son, Michael Schutte (Donna) of Dubuque, IA; four grandchildren, Gerald "Jerry" McGlaughlin Jr., Ted McGlaughlin (Missy), Andrew Naderhoff and Grant Naderhoff all of Quincy; ten step grandchildren, Scott Huseman (Theresa), Randy Huseman (Tara), Shelly Reichert (Dave), Christopher Huseman (Julie), Kim Obert  (Tommy), and Kory Hollensteiner (Katie) all of Quincy; Kurt Hollensteiner (Jen) of Summerville, S.C., Steven Schutte (Jill) of Evergreen, CO, Debbie Greenspan (Ken) of Chalfort, PA and Angie Tomsic (Chris) of Akron, OH; many loving great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; a brother, Robert McGlaughlin (Mary) of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.

   Mr. McGlaughlin was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mary and Marian; two sons, Gerald McGlaughlin Sr. and a son in infancy; a brother, Marvin McGlaughlin; and three sisters, Marjorie Schutte, Dorothy Rosenkoetter and Neva Saylor.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Morwell and Monsignor Mike Kuse. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.

Our love and sympathy to all who knew Uncle Lowell. He was a good upstanding man for as long as I knew him. Grace, peace and God's speed to him.

Uncle Lowell was a big part of my childhood. I have many wonderful memories of him. I will miss him and loved him dearly.
