CARLENE  STARMAN

   Mrs. M. Carlene Starman, 87, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1429 Adams, Quincy, died at 9:34 a.m. Wednesday (April 18, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born July 17, 1924 in Mendon, Illinois, Carlene was the daughter of Frank H. and Eva Ruth Frazier Shriver.  She married E. Eugene "Gene" Starman on June 29, 1949. He survives.

    Carlene was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and was a former member of  Alpha Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Luther Memorial Church where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher and active with the WICKS Ministry. She loved helping others by volunteering at Good Samaritan Home and with her husband, Gene, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.    

   A graduate of Mendon High School and Gem City Business College, Carlene was employed at Moorman Manufacturing before her marriage. She later was employed in the cafeteria at Quincy Junior High School for 20 years until her retirement.

   Survivors include her husband, Gene; four daughters, Carla S. Harper of League City, TX, Janeen B. "Jan" Rilea of Rawlins, WY, Lynn G. Starman (Abdirahman Mohamed) of Eden Prairie, MN and Leann R. Thurston (Bryan) of Franklinville, N.J.; a son, Randall E. "Randy" Starman of San Carlos, CA; seven grandchildren, Logan Harper (Brittany), Justin Garner (Jennifer), Austin Garner, Ryan Starman, Zakariya Dirie, Aden Dirie and Hailey Thurston; a great grandson, Rogan Garner; a sister in law, Zola Shriver Cadwallader of Claremont, CA; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Starman was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Helen Hirst, Mildred Popham and Lois McMeekin; and two brothers, Henry Shriver and Roger Shriver.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Mikkelson officiating.  Inurnment will be in Quincy Memorial Park at a later date.

   Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 12:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Hope Lutheran Church or the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
