   Mr. William Lester "Bill" Claus, 70, of the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, formerly of Payson, Illinois, died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday (May 16, 2012) in the Illinois Veteran's Home.

   Born July 11, 1941 in Quincy, Bill was the son of Lester and Edna E. Ostrander Claus.

   Bill was a member of the Plainville Baptist Church and the Midwest Old Threshers of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, having served on the Board for the Theater Museum. A circus fanatic, Bill toured with the Toby and Susie Tent Show as a member of the Schaffner Players for many years. In later years, Bill helped with publicity any time the circus came to town.  Bill also enjoyed playing Santa for many families in the area and loved attending county fairs and festivals and helped as security for many years at the Adams County Fair. Bill's last occupation was a taxi cab driver in Quincy.

   Survivors include a son, William Claus Jr (Stacie) of Keokuk, IA; a daughter, Angela Huckstep (Chris) of Mendon, IL; five grandchildren, Gregory Huckstep, Christy Huckstep, Nicole Dupy, Caylee Claus and Cody Claus; a sister, Emma Sparks (James) of Ewing, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Claus was preceded in death by his parents; his step father, Golden "Red" Beattie; and two sisters, Margaret Gordanier and Virginia Bishop.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran's Home.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Sunset Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Tuesday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the All Faiths Chapel.  The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

   Memorials may be made to the Plainville Baptist Church or the Theater Museum in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

We are so very sorry to hear about your fathers passing. My GOD be with you in your time of need. I will miss his funny quirks and his witty attitude. All of the storied he shared and his loving ways. I will miss him so much.

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He was so good to my mother and we really appreciated the time he spent with her. I know he will be missed by his family and many friends.

We're really going to miss our annual visit with Bill at Old Thresher's. Harold was a classmate of Bill's in high school. We're praying for all of you.
