Forest lived most of his early life in rural Pike County and attended Pike County Schools and Liberty High School.  After moving to Adams County he and Ruth resided in the Liberty area for 66 years and raised their family of five children.  He was known to many in the community as "Duke".  Shortly after his marriage to Ruth, he left to proudly serve his country in World War II.  He served in the 11th Air Borne Division as a paratrooper in Japan, and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and Liberty American Legion Post #640.
