AGNES  B.  ASH

   Mrs. Agnes B. Ash, 99, of the Good Samaritan Home, Quincy, formerly of Payson, Illinois, died at 7:05 am Wednesday (August 15, 2012) in the home.

   Born February 14, 1913 in Payson, Illinois, Agnes was the daughter of John C. and Christina Montag Waack. She married Robert M. Ash on December 21, 1941.  He preceded her in death on July  6, 1964.

   Agnes was a lifetime member of the Payson Congregational United Church of Christ, where she was baptised in 1913. In 1932, she was initiated into the Payson Chapter  Order of Eastern Star which later became Pike Chapter 20 and was an active member for 79 years.  Agnes was active with the PTA, and was awarded an Honorary Life Membership by the Illinois Congress PTA in 1981, and was active with the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Auxiliary. Always active in the Payson - Plainville communities, Agnes was awarded the Plainville Lions Club Community Service Award at the Payson Old Settlers Pinic. Agnes was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was a member of R.S.V.P. where she was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

   Agnes was employed for 22 years at Seymour grade school in Payson, where she was instrumental in beginning the cafeteria where she worked for 10 years and later as a custodian for 12 years at the school. Following her retirement, she drove the county bus for the Senior Center in Quincy for 14 years.

   Survivors include a daughter, Christine Ash of Quincy; a son, Charles Ash of Payson; three grandchildren, Robert "Bobby" Ash (Andrea) of Payson, IL,  Bryan Ash (Kimberly) of Barry, IL and Rob Ash (Amy) of Fowler, IL; eight great grandchildren, Robert Cody Ash, Brady Ash, Paige Malone, Lonita Ash, Denver Ash, Amber Jo Veihl, Isabelle Marie Ash and Sarah Elizabeth Ash; and many loving nieces and nephews and friends.

   Mrs. Ash was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert J. Ash; five brothers, Ralph Waack, Richard Waack, Howard Waack, Carl Waack and George Waack; and four sisters, Florence Waack, Lorene Drebes, Helen Bolin and Elsie Rathbun.

   Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson by Pastor Steve Disseler and Pastor Dennis Gartung.  Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery.

    There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the funeral service.

   Memorials may  be made to the Blessing Cancer Center, Blessing Heart Center or the charity of the donor's choice.

Bobby and the entire Ash family,
Please know that you and the entire family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. I remember many great stories you told me of Grandma Ash. She was a wonderful, gentle lady.
