MARGARET SUE JOHNSON

   Margaret Sue Johnson, 64, of Quincy, died at 7:31 p.m. Thursday (September 6, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born May 11, 1948 in Todd County, Kentucky,  Sue was the daughter of LeeRoy and Lillie Mae Powers Byard.  She married Alvah Johnson on February 13, 1965 in Maywood, Missouri.

   Sue was a Cub Scout Den Mother and enjoyed sewing clothes for her family.  She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her flower garden, fishing and playing bingo.  A lot of her time was given to help run the Public Athletic League Boxing Club, traveling to many boxing shows and tournaments.  Muhammed Ali once helped her promote a boxing show by doing a radio broadcast with her.

   Sue was employed at Motorola until it's closing.  She then was employed as an assistant manager at Hardee's North and later at Harris Corporation for over 10 years until her retirement.  Following her retirement, Sue attended John Wood Community College and received her CNA certificate.  She was employed at the Illinois Veteran's Home for 9 years until retiring in 2011.  In between jobs, Sue found the time to take in and care for several foster children.

   Survivors include three daughters, Leanne Young (Chuck) of Quincy, Chelly Peterson (Edward)  of Quincy and Christine Forsythe (Brent) of Camp Point, IL; one son, Thad Johnson of Quincy; eleven grandchildren, Amber, Thaine, Reaven, Jimmy, Ashley, Kristofer, Taylor, Lexi, Hunter, Logan and Haeley; four great grandchildren, Bailey, Jaydrian, Ayden and Amaris;  two brothers, Lee Roy Byard (Dee) of Palmyra, MO and Grady Byard (Clarissa) of Madisonville, KY; two sisters, Julie Myers of Fowler, IL and Dorene Calvin of Hutchinson, KS;  and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Sue was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Freda and Lorene Byard.
  
   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. V. Lee Amsler officiating.  Burial will be in the Durham Cemetery in Durham, Missouri.

  Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
