Mardell was a graduate of Barry High School, Gem City Business College, and in the 1980's she received her Accociate Degree from John Wood Community College.  She was employed as an office manager for Master Tank, Kalo Innoculate and Steve Nosser Ford until she opened her own business with Helen Whitlock, Best In Business Systems, which she operated until her retirement.

Survivors include her son, Steve Swartz (Pam) of Quincy; a sister, Marjorie Potter (John) of Barry, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mardell was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Joyce Elaine Swartz; two sons in infancy; a sister, Carrie Alice Pennewell; and three brothers, Albert Elmo Schultz, Frank Schultz and Donald Leroy Schultz.

My mother, Hilda Hack Fletcher and Mardells mother were sisters. As cousins I have wonderful memories of Mardell. She was always such a caring person. I will miss her wonderful smile, and great laugh. She was my special person when my Dad died, as I could not make it to the hospital before he passed away, but she filled in for me, allowing my Dad to die peacefully.
Your cousin, Alvah Fletcher Fryer; Galesburg, IL
