ROBERT  W.  DEFFENBAUGH

   Robert Warren Deffenbaugh, 92, of the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died at 1:49 p.m. Saturday (March 2, 2013) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

   Born October 28, 1920 in Rochelle, Illinois, Robert was the son of Elizabeth Struck Deffenbaugh and Roy A. Deffenbaugh.  He is survived by his wife Alice; four step-children, Michael Fowler of Abilene, Tx., Jackie Myers of Dallas, Tx., Teri Johnson of Springfield, IL., and Toni Leahy of Auburn, IL; along with four Grandchildren.

   A graduate of Springfield High School, Robert was a member of National Honor Society and achieved Eagle Rank in the Boy Scouts. He graduated from University of Illinois with a JD in Law and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.  Following graduation he served as an officer in the First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific where he toured for 36 months in areas such as Australia and Japan.

   Mr. Deffenbaugh's professional accomplishments included: Assistant Attorney General in the State Legislative Reference Bureau; Legal Council for School Problems Commission, where he revised the school code; Assistant Legal advisor for Superintendent of Public Instructions, where he codified the laws of the city of Springfield; and a private practice in law.

    Springfield was made better by his dedication to an excellent life. His continued commitment to the community was marked by achievements such as Past President of Springfield Downtown Kiwanis Club, a 33 degree in the Masons, Past Commander of Knights Templar, Past Potentate of Ansar Shrine, and Past Director of Royal Order of Jesters. He was an avid dog lover, enjoyed snow skiing and was Co-founder of the Springfield Ski Club, golfing, traveling, and traveled most of the world. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones.

    St. Paul's Masonic Lodge No. 500 will conduct services at 11:15 Tuesday (March 12, 2013) in Oak Ridge Cemetery, 1441 Monument Ave, Springfield, IL followed by a Military service at 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at Ansar Shrine Temple, 630 South 6th St., Springfield, IL at 12:30 p.m.
