JOSEPH "JAY" BOYER

   Mr. Joseph "Jay" Boyer, 94, of Garrett, Indiana, formerly of Quincy died at 8:22 p.m. Saturday (May 4, 2013) in Millers Merry Manor Nursing Home, Garrett, Indiana.
  
   Born March 26, 1919 in LaGrange, Missouri Jay was the son of Asberry and Mary Hoyes Boyer. He married Mary "Corky" Hecteman on December 30, 1950 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on March 10, 2002.

   Jay served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a Medic, receiving a  European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with a Silver Battle Star and a Purple Heart from action in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and former member of St. Francis Church. Jay was an avid  fisherman and enjoyed gardening, raising Homing Pigeons and loved spending time with his family.

   Mr. Boyer farmed in the LaGrange area and then worked in the Mintrate Department at Moormans for 28 years retiring in 1981.

   Survivors include two sons, Michael Boyer of Auburn,IN and Patrick Boyer (Cheryl) of Bloomington, IL; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Boyer of Quincy; a sister, Bette Rose of St. Charles, MO.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Christopher Boyer and a brother, Harold.

   A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in  St.Francis Church with Father Don Blaser officiating. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Burial will be in  Greenmount Cemetery with full Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and  the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail.

   Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 8:30 until 9:30 at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37.
