JESS WILLIAM BRASHEARS JR.

   Jess W. Brashears Jr., 72 of Quincy died at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday (August 14, 2013) in Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Born August 9, 1941 in Perry, Missouri, he was the son of Jess William and Genevieve Story Balko Brashears.  He married Carolyn Sparks in September of 1966 in Durham, MO.

   Jess served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  He was employed as a machinist at local manufacturing plants in Quincy.

   Survivors include two sons Kevin Brashears (Angela) of Mendon, IL and Stephen Brashears Sr. (Teresa) of Lima, IL; two sisters Peggy Ferguson of Quincy and Katherine Crow of Creve Couer, IL.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Amber Brashears, Kaitlyn Brashears, Ashley Goodwin, Alexsis Krow and Stephen Brashears Jr; six great grandchildren Morgan, Rachel, Jack, Alizabeth, Michelle and Coltan.

   Mr. Brashears was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ray and Billy Brashears, two sisters Ruby Geist and Goldie Gray.

   Graveside services with Military Honors by the Quincy American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be held Tuesday morning at 10:45 in the Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with Pastor Elmer Hagood officiating.

   Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 until 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

   Memorials may be made to the Jess Brashears Jr. Memorial Fund.
