   John W. "Jack" Simon, 87, of the Good Samaritan Home, Quincy, died at 1:15 a.m. Friday (January 10, 2014) in The Good Samaritan Home.    

   Born December 11, 1926 in Quincy, Jack was the son of Clarence and Mildred Schmidt Simon.  He married Shirley F. Dedert on September 8, 1951 in Salem Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on October 31, 2011.

   Jack was longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where he served two terms on the Church Council and as head usher for 47 years and was a member of the Men's Brotherhood and Salem Couples Club. Jack was also a member of the Quinsippi Stamp Club, Exhausted Roosters of the JayCees, Quincy Masonic Lodge No. 296, Quincy Consistory, Quincy High Twelve Club, and served as a DeMolay advisor.  Jack was also very active with the Ursa Retreat House where he served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer, and he was an Adams County precinct committeeman.  Jack also loved camping and was a member of the Holiday Ramblers and the Camper Stampers.

   Mr. Simon began his career at Knapheide Manufacturing as a draftsman and later worked in production control and scheduling. He retired after 42 years in 1987 as a Quality Control Manager.

   Survivors include two sons, Rodney Simon (Sandra) of North Riverside, IL and Bradney Simon (Debbie) of Spartanburg, S.C.; a daughter, Kathy List (Lloyd) of Mason City, IL;  nine grandchildren, John W. Simon II (Cara), Matthew Simon (Pamela), Andrew Simon, Julie Toland (Darcy), Joseph Simon, Nicole Steel (Jason), Joshua Simon (Cherie), Nathan List, and Jason List (Taryn); six great grandchildren, Whittaker Simon, Quinn Simon, Drew Toland, Jace Toland, Seth Toland, Noah Simon and Nicole is expecting in March; a close friend and cousin, Joyce Winn (Bill) of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Shirley.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Ken Kramer.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be  Monday  evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Salem Church or Good Samaritan Home.

I remember many conversations with Shirley and Jack at Couples Club meetings at Salem. He always had a smile and seemed genuinely happy. My deepest sympathy on your loss.

Richard and I were saddened to hear of Jacks death, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time, Jack was a great contributor during his years on the Retreat House board.

May God walk with you these next days and give you the strength for final goodbyes. Let us all thank him for the time the family had to spend with Jack before he left this earth, and the loving and generous family Jack was given.

Jack was a very kind and intelligent man and I so enjoyed the many talks we use to have. It was such a joy and privilege for me to have been able to take care of him! I miss him very much! Please know that you are all in my Thoughts and Prayers!
