   Reginald Levis Willis, 87, of Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy, died at 3:35 a.m. Friday (March 28, 2014) at the Illinois Veteran’s  Home.

   Born January 23, 1927 in Macomb, Illinois, Reginald was the son of Frank Bogue and Christine (Clemens) Willis.

   Reginald was a veteran of the United States Army in the Pacific Theater  (Philippines) during World War II.  He worked for the Navy as an aircraft mechanic in California.  He taught school at Oakley, CA, and was a procurement clerk in San Francisco.  He was a bank teller in Chicago, IL and studied law at night school.  He was given a scholarship to the University of Taiwan.  He earned his M.A. at Western IL University in Macomb in 1973 in Economic Geography and took accounting courses at Bradley University in Peoria.  He was a buyer for Metropolitan Sanitary District of Greater Chicago and was located in Fulton County.  He was a Quality Assurance Specialist in Ammunition Surveillance with the U.S. Army from 1979 to1992, having lived in Germany, Huntsville, Alabama and later retiring in Aberdeen, Maryland in 1992.  He came to the Quincy Veterans’ Home in October of 2002.  There he spent time in the library reading the daily Chinese paper, New York Times, Chicago Tribune and Wall Street.  He worked on his computer and transcribed many books from Latin; then to French and finally to Chinese.

     He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Vermont Masonic Lodge No. 116 and a former member of theVermont American Legion Post # 26. Reginald was also a member of a German Hiking Group (VolksMarch) and he enjoyed opera.

   Surviving are two brothers;  Wilmer (Bud) Willis and wife of Ina in Macomb, IL and Frank Willis and wife, Mary Jo of Fairview, IL; and six nephews and nieces, Frank Arthur Willis, Reggie Willis, Kristina White, Stephen Willis, Benjamin Willis and Mariam Graff.

   Mr. Willis was preceded in death by his parents; and one nephew, Richard.  

    Memorial Services will be held Thusday afternoon at 3:00 in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Quincy by Scott Aaseng.  A luncheon will be served following the services at the church.

   Graveside services will be held at a later date in Vermont Cemetery in Vermont, IL.

I've only just discovered this, so I'm a bit tardy. My condolences to Reggie's family. I was a colleague and friend of Reggie when he worked in Germany in the 1980's. He was a kind and intelligent man who made a good impression on all who knew him, soldiers and civilians alike.
