BILL  ANDERS

   Mr. William R. "Bill" Anders, 71, of Quincy,  died at 6:05 p.m. Sunday (April 27, 2014) in his home.

   Born September 27, 1942 in Quincy, Bill was the son of Roy Earl and Mildred Ruth Klusmeyer Anders.

   Bill was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School. He joined the United States Air Force in January 1962 and served at bases in California, Ohio and Texas during his career. Bill served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War.  He completed courses in Jungle Survival, Water Suvival and Aircraft Loadmaster courses and  attained 5,000 accident free flying hours. He retired in 1981 as Master Sergeant.  Bill then accepted an overseas Civil Service assignment that took him to Korea where he managed golf courses on various Military Bases. He resigned in 1990 from the Civil Service to move back to Quincy to care for his parents.  Bill was employed at the Illinois Veteran's Home from 1997 until his retirement in 2003.

   A proud member of the Class of '60, Bill enjoyed taking part in planning class reunions and hosting fellow classmates for golf outings at Cedar Crest Country Club during the reunion. He was an avid golfer who recorded 5 Holes in One and enjoyed playing in the WIGA tournaments and many golf outings. He especially looked forward to playing the Private Joe Golf Tournament and the Alzheimer's Golf Tournament every year. Bill was a part of the "Cedar Crest Gang" who would play cards almost everyday.

   Bill loved life. He enjoyed a good cigar, going to Kelly's and the "Boat", and having a drink with friends.

   Survivors include a brother, Gary Anders of Quincy; a very special person to Bill, Donna Shields of Quincy; an Aunt, Blanche Klusmeyer of Quincy; many loving cousins and friends.

   Mr. Anders was preceded in death by his parents.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Marlin Rempfer. Burial with Military Honors will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

   Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Great River Honor Flight, Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Blessing Cancer Center.

Dear Gary,
I am sorry to hear that your brother, Bill, is no longer with us. He was an American hero for his dedicated and varied service to our country. I was glad to have some fun with him on the golf course and enjoy his pleasant personality. May God's Blessings comfort you as you recall the
