Arlene Grue, 74, of Quincy, IL , died on May 23, 2014 at her residence. She was born in Lebanon, IN on July 24, 1939, daughter of Bill and Enid (Poynter) Rodgers, both deceased. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1957.

She married Bob Hackett on December 1, 1957 in Lebanon. They farmed together for nearly 30 years until Bob’s passing on August 16, 1986. Arlene was the devoted mother of four children and loving “Mamaw” to ten grandchildren: Jeff (Kim; Kate and Tom) Hackett of Oldsmar, FL, Joyce (Ron; Mitchell, Mackenzi, Mason and Micah) Fairley of Quincy, IL, Jay (Sherrie; Abby and Emily) Hackett of Lebanon, IN, and Brenda (Bryan and Avery of Columbia, MO) Hackett of Corpus Christi, TX. Also surviving are her two sisters, Linda Barry of Kissimmee, FL and Ellen (John) Reinke of Lebanon.  

Arlene married John G. Grue on April 8, 1989 in Palmyra, MO. He died on August 3, 2010.

Arlene worked as a Radiology Technician and nurse’s aide. She enjoyed traveling, fishing, swimming, crafts, playing cards, croquet and spending time with her grandchildren. Arlene was a member of Madison Park Christian Church in Quincy and lived as an example of God’s love. Her sweet smile will be missed.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 Noon on Thursday (May 29, 2014) at Strawmyer and Drury Funeral Home in Lebanon, IN.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN

Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home in Lebanon, IN.

Memorials may be made to Blessing Home Health Care c/o Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, 1435 State Street, Quincy or you may send perennials to the family for a garden in Arlene's memory.

I feel fortunate to have the opportunity of working with such a beautiful lady. She was always smiling and never complained. I'm gonna miss those big blue eyes and bright smile. Love you lots .
