    Robert H. "Bob" Kirgan, 98, of the Barry Community Care Center, formerly of rural Liberty, Illinois, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday (July 21, 2014) in the Barry Community Care Center.

   Born January 23, 1916 in Cass County, Illinois, Bob was the son of William and Mabel Van Pelt Kirgan. He married Cathryn Hosford onMay 25, 1944 in Virginia, Illinois. She survives.

   Mr. Kirgan served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II, stationed in Italy and the Aleutian Islands.

   Bob was a member of Brethren Church of Fishhook, Liberty American Legion Post 640, and the Adams County Farm Bureau. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

    Bob farmed in the Liberty area for many years, retiring at age 80.

  Survivors include his wife, Cathryn; a son, Robert H. "Joe" Kirgan (Janice) of Liberty; three daughters, Sue Bancroft of Auburn, IL, Betty Nall (Denton) of Lewistown, MO and Barb Scranton (Burt) of  Sierra Vista, AZ; fourteen grandchildren, Rachel Little (Kevin), Jennifer Schutte (Kevin), Katie Bloom (Shawn), Nathan Kirgan (Erin Cawthon), Christopher Bancroft, Sarah Barth (Jon), Stephanie Bancroft, Kenneth Mowen (Rhonda), Bruce Mowen (Robin), Darrell Mowen (Jennifer), Sherry Macomber (Dan), Angie Mundell (Ron), Mike Scranton and Kevin Scranton (Crystal); and many loving great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Kirgan was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy, Kay Ann Kirgan; two sons in law, Ed Bancroft and Dale Mowen; two brothers, Earl Kirgan and Clinton "Bud" Kirgan; and two sisters, Glenna Hageman and Eloise Blakeman.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Steve Disseler.  Burial with Military Honors  by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post 374 and  the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery, Cooperstown, Illinois.

   Visitation will be Thursday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
