   Willis Frederick Altenhein, 92, a lifelong Ellington Township farmer, died at 3:50 p.m. Friday (July 25, 2014) in the North Adams Home in Mendon.

   Born September 27, 1921 in Quincy, Willis was the son of William and Emma Baker Altenhein. He married Carolyn Foster on October 23, 1949 in the Table Grove Community Church. She survives

   Mr. Altenhein was engaged in farming in Adams County all of his life, witnessing many of the changes in Agriculture over his lifetime. For eighteen years, he served as a levee commissioner for the Indian Graves drainage district. He was an avid Indian artifact historian and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association.  He enjoyed the thrill of a good coon hunt with his best dog by his side, loved country music and played the guitar.  Willis was a simple man who worked the land with his family by his side, he considered himself a rich man

   Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Clinton Altenhein (Nancy) of Coatsburg, IL and James Altenhein (Ann) of  Latham, IL; a daughter, Jannel VonderHaar (Mark) of Palmyra, MO; four grandchildren, Justin VonderHaar (Erin), Sarah Harsell (Jeff), Ross Altenhein (Angie) and Hannah Altenhein (fiancee', Arthur Sutton), five great grandchildren, Jayce VonderHaar, Emma VonderHaar, Viktor Harsell, Gabriel Harsell and Lucian Harsell; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

    Mr. Altenhein was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edgar C. Altenhein;

   Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Dixie Croxton.  Burial will be in the Ellington Home Cemetery in Quincy.

   Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.          

   Memorials may be made to the Ellington Home Cemetery Association or North Adams Home.
