   Mr. Owen Eugene Carroll Jr., 68, of Quincy, died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday (October 7, 2014) in the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

   Born July 7, 1946 in Quincy, Owen was the son of Owen E. and Peggy K.Clear Carroll Sr.  He married Carol Jean Paulus on April 7, 1990 in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy. She survives.

   Mr. Carroll served his country in the U.S. Navy from March 23, 1966 to April 1, 1970.  He was a former member of the Quincy American Legion Post 37.

   A 1964 graduate of Christian Brothers High School, Owen worked with his father at Carroll's Vac Center for several years and became the owner of the business in 1987. He later worked at Quincy Compressor from 1997 until his retirement on April 28, 2006.

   An avid sportsman, Owen enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, following football and Nascar and was a faithful follower of Cubs baseball.
   Survivors include his wife, Carol Jean of Quincy; two step children, Cory A. Knorr (Leanne) of Fowler, IL and Stephanie J. Lubbers (John) of Ridgefield, WA; two step grandchildren, Isabella Knorr and Lorelei Lubbers; two brothers, Tim Carroll (Trudy) of Quincy and John Carroll (Julie) of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Donna Helmedag (Ron) of Fairview, TX and Janie Helms (Gene) of Richardson, TX; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents.

   Mr. Carroll requested to be cremated.  The family will meet with friends to celebrate Owen's life on Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

   Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or the Movement Disorders Center of Washington University.

I was sorry to hear of Owen passing away. He and I were classmates at St. Mary's school and Christian Bros. High School. He was a fine man and will be missed. My sympathy to all of his family.

Carol, I am so sorry for your loss, I know you did everything possible to keep Owen comfortable. Owen was a very sweet guy, and you are an Angel the way you were with him everyday. My thoughts and Prayers are with you. I hope I get to see you when I am in Quincy. All my Love, Norma Vaughn
