VELMA L. JACKSON

VELMA L. JACKSON, 89, WENT HOME PEACEFULLY TO BE WITH HER LORD AND SAVIOR ON NOVEMBER 4, 2014. VELMA WAS BORN JULY 20, 1925 IN QUINCY, ILLINOIS, TO JOHN WESLEY JACKSON AND HATTIE ANN JACKSON.

   VELMA WORKED AT TIMKEN MERCY HOSPITAL FOR FIFTEEN YEARS UNTIL SHE RETIRED.

   SHE BECAME A MEMBER OF GETHSEMANE BAPTIST CHURCH ON AUGUST 31, 2008 AND WAS GIVEN THE TITLE “MOST PERSISTENT STAR MEMBER”. THEY CALLED HER MOTHER JACKSON, AS SHE WAS VERY ACTIVE IN HER CHURCH, WITH LITTLE GOING ON THAT SHE WAS NOT PART OF. SHE ALSO WAS A BIG SUPPORTER OF THE N.O.B.D.A. AND ICUA.

   VELMA WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER PARENTS; SISTERS, HETTIE EUGENIA TAYLOR, JOHNAMAE WILLIAMS AND MARION DOUGLAS.

   SHE IS SURVIVED BY BROTHERS, ERRETT W. JACKSON SR. (EARLEEN) AND MONZEL JACKSON SR. (LORETTA); HER SISTER, PATRICIA SLAUGHTER; SPECIAL FRIENDS CATHY IN TENNESSEE AND CAROLYN IN QUINCY; AND MANY NIECES, NEPHEWS, GREAT NIECES AND GREAT NEPHEWS. SHE HAD NO CHILDREN OF HER OWN BUT ALWAYS SAID ERRETT JACKSON, CHRIS JACKSON WRIGHT, ROCELL JACKSON, ANTOINE JACKSON AND SHERRY JACKSON HOWARD WERE HER KIDS.

   GRAVESIDE SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT 3:30 PM ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2014 AT GREENMOUNT CEMETERY.

   ARRANGEMENTS BY THE ZEHENDER ROBINSON STORMER COOKSON FUNERAL HOME.
