RIP. You mean the world to me. You will be miss dearly, and want you to know you are in are thoughts and prayers forever. It upset me that you are gone and that we will never get to see you beautiful face in the bar again. You made it worth while to go to the bar every weekend. I know you in a better place now, no more pain will you ever have to feel ever again. Angels will be looking over in heaven.

I was heart broken to hear Willie had passed away. He had been a great friend to me since I came out in 83. He has done so much to help gay people in the area, and he will be deeply missed by all of the gay community. I always enjoyed making dresses for his shows and spending time with him. Rest in peace Willie, my prayers are with you.

One of the great unsung heroes of Quincy, Illinois. An authentic light through an era of darkness in backwaters. Few can match your lifetime of endurance, strength and courage, whatsoever you did.

Dear Kaufman Family, Greg and Robert,

I have known Willie many years, I even knew his step father Francis Cross when he was at Soldier home and also Willie's mother, a ram rod of a Lady, I can hear Willie Laugh now, OMG the only laugh like that in the city of Quincy. told him many old funny stories over 40 years, and so many great laughs.
Willie, or Irene West as many knew him as an entertainer was one of a kind, always with a class, a showman all his life. I can say this, He had GUTS and more than any one who was in Quincy, someone who helped so many young people coming out, so many dinners he had at Christmas times at his bar where many didn't have anything. You see, its not about being what you are, but with Willie what he could do for others.
So many good old times and I think really Quincy had a GEM, and it was he, dolled up, always a style of his own.
I don't care what any one says, but our loss is heavens gain.
I hope you are wearing your best and please give the best show you can, as you did for many here.
I have prayed everyday for his soul when someone called me, and will do so when I am called.
Yes, he is gone, but there was ONE Willie, ONE Irene, and hell of a showman. No one had the GUTS like him
