   Linda C. Smith, 69, of Quincy, died at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday (February 3, 2015) in her home.

   Born July 6, 1945 in Quincy, Linda was the daughter of James Warren and Martha Thompson Jones Hale.  She married Stephen G. Smith on June 20, 1971 in Decatur,  Illinois.  They celebrated 41 years of marriage until his death on June 30, 2012.

   Linda enjoyed arts and crafts and was known for having a "green thumb" in caring for her plants. She was an accomplished artist, painting with oil and water colors. An active supporter of the Quincy Humane Society, Linda loved animals, especially her Bischon, Charlie.  

   Linda was employed as an office manager for Firestone Tire & Rubber, International Harvester and for the Bluefield Telegraph Newspaper in Bluefield, West Virginia. She also had been employed as a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 in Ohio and was last employed as a Nurse Assistant in the Morgan and Pike County, Illinois area.

   Survivors include two sons, James D. Barker (Melissa) of Clayton, N.C. and Justin Barker (Maggie) of Perry, IL; her cousin and caretaker whom Linda thought of as a daughter, Georgetta "Gigi" Corbett of Quincy; five grandchildren, Justin "Jay" Barker, Joey Barker, Christian Barker, Ashton Barker and Madison Barker; a great grandson, Jackson J. Barker; a brother, James S. Hale (Kaye) of Sherman, IL; a nephew, Micah Hale; a niece Anisa Gallagher; and many loving cousins including Cooper Nisbet of Quincy.

   Linda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stephen; and a granddaughter, Marissa Barker.

   Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 in the Payson New Cemetery by Chaplain Clif Weisinger.  

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

   Memorials may be made to the Quincy Humane Society.

I only knew Linda for a short time. I fell in love with her instantly, She was a kind carin g loving women, She loved her Charlie(her dog) so much, I am so deeply sad she is no longer with us. I know she is watching over us and I will never forget her. Rest in Peace Sweet Linda I love you and I will see you again. (((HUGS)))
