RICHARD E. WEISENBERGER

Richard E. "Rich" Weisenberger, 84, of Quincy, died at 8:30 p.m. Sunday (August 23, 2015) at the Good Samaritan Home.

Born May 14, 1931, in Quincy, Rich was the son of Emery and Olinda Hoecker Weisenberger. He married Mary Mueller McGee on December 29, 1962 in Quincy.  She survives.

Growing up in rural Liberty, Rich attended Liberty schools. He served his country in the Army National Guard for several years and was called to active duty during the Korean War.

In the early 1960's, Rich worked for Quincy Welding at 5th and State.  During that time he traveled with O.F. Christner's boat racing team where he set a world record for the fastest speed at 126 mph.  Later in life Rich was employed as a salesman for several automobile dealerships in the Quincy area and owned and operated R.W. Auto Sales at 10th and State.

An automotive and racing enthusiast, Rich also enjoyed collecting and restoring model toys and attending toy shows.  He enjoyed life, loved being with people, talking, joking, laughing, and having coffee with "the guys".

Rich was a member of the Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, but more recently he enjoyed relaxing at home watching his favorite TV ministries.   The past two and a half years, as Rich fought leukemia (MDS) he chose to keep his humor and was determined to live life as usual.  During sleepless nights he could be heard talking to Jesus.

Rich was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Jerry Weisenberger (Candy) of Quincy; a daughter, Lori Ann Cox (Curtis) of New London, MO; a stepdaughter, Vicky Albertson and her companion, Dave Thompson of Quincy; five grandchildren, Christopher Weisenberger, Adam Weisenberger, Logan Cox, Caylee Cox and Cameron Cox; two step granddaughters, Amy Voorhis (Heath) and Megan Thomas (Tony); and many loving great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Doris Sheurman and Naomi Hyer; and a brother, Roy Weisenberger.

Graveside services with Military Honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 in Quincy Memorial Park with Pastor David Scott officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Arch United Methodist Church in Hannibal or the charity of the donor's choice.

There is no shame in smiling: No regrets for laughing.
He'd want you to go on living. Remembering,
Him, as you loved him and how much still loves you.
Our thoughts and prayer are with all Uncle Rich's family
and friends.
