   Joyce C. Maxwell, 76, of Katy, Texas formerly of Quincy, died on Thursday (October 1, 2015) at Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas.

   Born July 14, 1939 in Hannibal, Missouri, Joyce was the Daughter of Shirley E. and Valera Yount Brockschmidt.

   Joyce attended Quincy schools, graduated from Quincy College and received a Master's degree in education from Texas Southern University. She was extremely active with the Second Baptist Church of Katy, TX, and was involved with choir, Bible study and various ladies' groups.  Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family, crafting projects, traveling and hosting church groups at her house.  She always stepped into your house or welcomed you into hers with an open heart, warm smile and the extra effort to make you know you were special.
   Joyce owned and operated a preschool in Quincy.  After completing her degree, she taught elementary, art and middle school math in New Canton, IL, Quincy, IL, and Missouri City, TX.

   Joyce is survived by children Elizabeth Mowrer of Pekin, IL; Chris Cominotti of Katy, TX; Sandy (Paul) Steenson of Tulsa, OK; Matt (Gina) Maxwell of Duluth, GA; grandchildren Colin Mowrer (fiancee, Alyssa Lawler) of Pekin, IL; Nicki and Erin Cominotti of Denver, CO; Quinn Steenson of Tulsa, OK; and Sam, Morgan and Jacob Maxwell of Duluth, GA; and sister, Janet Homberger (Joe) of Quincy, IL, along with nieces and nephews.

   Joyce was preceded in death by her parents S.E. & Valera Brockschmidt; a son in law, Dale Cominotti; maternal grandparents Milton & Dora Yount; and paternal grandparents Fred & Agnes Brockschmidt.

   Visitation will be at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home from 9:30 -11:00 on Monday, October 12.  Private Graveside services will follow at Greenmount Cemetery.
