SHIRLEY  J.  STEPHENS

   Shirley J. Stephens, 80, of Kinderhook, Illinois, died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday (October 20, 2015) in the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Illinois.

   Born June 19, 1935 in La Grange, Missouri Shirley was the daughter of W. G. "Pete" and Martha E. West Brandt.  She married Richard Stephens on January 15, 1958 in Pittsfield, Illinois.  He survives.

   Shirley loved the outdoors, watching and feeding the birds and especially horseback riding. She was an accomplished pianist, an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles.

   Shirley was employed at Motorola and then for Russell Stover Candy Company until her retirement.  She later managed Pete's Boathouse in LaGrange, Missouri.

   Survivors include her husband, Richard; a daughter, J. Michelle Alhorn (Jon) of Meredosia, IL; a son, Brian Stephens (Kelley) of Springfield, IL; three grandchildren, Travis Alhorn (Jennifer) of Chapin, IL, Dr. Mark Stephens (Fiancee', Karina) of Urbana, IL and Tyler Stephens of Springfield, IL; four great grandchildren, Mary Alhorn, Rylan Alhorn, Brayden Alhorn and Kinley Ann Stephens; a brother, Gerald "Jerry" Brandt (Linda) of LaGrange, MO; a sister, Mickalyn "Mikie" Crawford of LaGrange, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister in infancy, Penny E. Brandt.

   Services to celebrate the life of Shirley will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.  Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville, Illinois.

   Visitation will be Friday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home in Quincy.

   Memorials may be made to the Shiloh Cemetery Association or St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
