Scott McCarl, 61, of Quincy, died at 5:10 p.m. Sunday (November 8, 2015) in his home.

Born July 3, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois, Scott was the son of Carlton M. McCarl Sr. and Betty Snarzk.  He married Sally Bange on September 15, 1979 in Quincy. She survives.

Scott was member of St. John Cathedral in Quincy and was a former member of Cedar Crest Country Club, South Side Boat Club and Triple Oaks Club. He enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, woodworking and crafting, making many pieces for family and friends. Scott loved being involved with his son's activities and was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 76 at St. Dominic for many years.

Scott began his career at Knapheide Manufacturing in 1986 when he was hired as a welder. He was a member of the American Welding Society, Machinist Lodge 822 and became a Certified Weld Inspector and a Certified Weld Educator. Currently, Scott was a traveling Internal Weld Trainer, training individuals in welding, blueprint reading, math, grinding, wrote welding procedures and PQRs. Scott certified welders for both Knapheide Manufacturing and the KTEC Stores. Scott was instrumental in developing the training for the KTEC Stores and traveled across the country to train the employees. Scott conducted daily audits to monitor the welding program throughout the company. In his 12 years as an IWT, he trained hundreds of individuals.  Scott truly loved his job and the many people he worked with in his 29 years with the company.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Sally; three sons, Marty McCarl (Tegan Nixon) of Columbia, MO, Cory McCarl and Justin McCarl, both of Quincy;  his mother, Betty McCarl of Houston, TX; his father, Carlton M. McCarl Sr. (Denise) of Chicago, IL; two brothers, David McCarl of Houston, TX and Marc McCarl of Bolingbrook, IL; a sister, Candy Guth (Joe) of Villa Park, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Scott was preceded in death by a brother, Collin McCarl; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Gertrude Snarzk; paternal grandparents, David and Thelma McCarl; and his father in law and mother in law, Clarence and Evelyn Bange.

Cremation has been accorded to Scott.  Memorial services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in St. John's Cathedral by Bishop Stephen Strawn.  Entombment will be in the St. John's Cathedral Columbarium.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Friday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at St. John's Cathedral.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Cathedral, Blessing Cancer Center, Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
