JAMES E.  LOEFFLER

   James E. Loeffler, 84, of Quincy, died at 11:52 a.m. Wednesday (November 25, 2015) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born April 26, 1931 in Lincoln, Illinois, Jim was the son of John W. and Ida Pearl Dady Loeffler.  He married Jean L. Shipe on January 6, 1954 in Quincy. She survives.

   Mr. Loeffler served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. In May, 2013, Jim went on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

   Jim was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ, the Bear Creek American Legion Post in Ursa and was a former member of U.C.T.  He enjoyed  micro midget racing, square dancing and camping. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandpa who loved spending time with his family, especially the family vacations to the lake.

   Jim was employed for 28 years at Electric Wheel in Quincy until their closing. He then was employed at the Illinois Veteran's Home at Sunset Cemetery and later as Foreman of the truck garage for 10 years until his retirement.

   Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jean; two daughters, Jana Speed of Quincy and Jill Gross (Tony) of Quincy; three grandchildren, Kevin Speed, Amanda Gross and Olivia Gross; a sister, Betty Williams of Lincoln, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Loeffler was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Butch Loeffler, Bill Loeffler, John Loeffler and two brothers in infancy; and five sisters, Maude Salmon, Oma Yeates, Hazel Pottorf, Jacqueline Smith and Marge Davison.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Jan Johnson.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Salem Church or the Great River Honor Flight.

Jean, Jana and Jill & families,

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing! He was a great guy and will be missed by all who knew him. We have other commitments and will not be able to attend the visitation or services, but wanted to let everyone know that our thoughts and prayers are with each of you. God bless you all!

So sorry to learn of "Hoss'" passing. Have many fond memories of times having coffee and discussing politics at the Court House. Fortunately, we both were both of the same "persuasion"! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
