   Gerald  K. "Jerry" Shank, 84, of Quincy, formerly of Clayton, Illinois, died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday (November 28, 2015) in Blessing Hospital.      

   Born December 23, 1930 in Clayton, Illinois, Jerry was the son of Harold "Sam" and Clara Bolton Shank.  He married Mary Dean Lierly on February 12, 1955 in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois. Jerry and Mary celebrated their 60th Anniversary in 2015.

   Mr. Shank served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.          

   Jerry was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Past Master of Benjamin Masonic Lodge No. 297 in Clayton, Quincy Consistory, Fidelity Chapter Order of Eastern Star where he had served as Worthy Patron, and the Clayton American Legion Post 286.  He enjoyed square dancing and loved baseball, coaching and umpiring for many years, collecting baseball memorabilia and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.  

   While living in Clayton, Jerry took an active role in the community. He served as an E.M.T. for Eastern Adams County Ambulance Service, was a volunteer for the Clayton Volunteer Fire District, served for many years on the Clayton Town Board and was well known for being the Emcee for the Clayton Old Settler's for 25  years.

   Jerry was a graduate of Clayton High School and continued to earn professional training and certification. He was employed at Motorola for over 20 years and later Jerry and Mary owned and operated the Clayton Elevator for many years. Following his retirement, Jerry worked part time for Sears in Quincy.

   As active as Jerry was, family still came first. He made sure to attend his daughters social activities and later those of his grandchildren. In more recent years, Jerry loved the time he spent with his family, especially his great grandchildren.  He will be remembered as a "jack of all trades and master of many"

   Survivors include his wife, Mary; four daughters, Diane Johnson (Terry) of Quincy, Deb Meservey (Marvin) of Quincy, Dawn VanCamp (Jeff) of Quincy and Danita Grill (Roger) of Double Oak, TX; eleven grandchildren, Robin Litt (Jacob), Ryan Pickens (Beth), Abbey Manning (Brady), Lacey Kruse (Chad), Brett Ufkes (Kate), Brandi Patton (Jesse), Brandon VanCamp (Ashley), Ashley Ray (Adam Holtschlag), Brooke Blackburn (Adam), Ethan Grill and Jonathan Grill; twelve great grandchildren, Sasha Litt, Molly Pickens, Sophie Manning, Stella Manning, Jonah Kruse, Nolan Kruse, Isaiah Patton, Jack Ray, Charles Ray, Ella Ray, Jamison Blackburn,  Audra Blackburn and would have welcomed a new great grandchild due in May; a sister, Martha Ruth Ogle (Charles) of Arlington, TX; a sister in law, Marge Shank of Golden, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Shank was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Kenneth Howard Shank in infancy and Wayne Shank.

   Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 in Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gayle Pope officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Funeral Honors Detail.  Private burial will be in Harwood Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Monday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.

   Memorials may be made to the children's play area at Christ Lutheran Church or Chaddock.
