DALE  C.  GILBERT

   Dale C. Gilbert, 84, of Quincy, formerly of Plainville, Illinois, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday (December 4, 2015) at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy.

   Born June 3, 1931 in Adams County, Illinois, Dale was the son of Earl and Olah Whitlock Gilbert.  He married Janet Groce on January 28, 1961 in Plainville, Illinois.  She survives.

   Mr. Gilbert served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was  awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

   Dale graduated from Maplewood High School in Camp Point with the class of 1950.  He had been a 50 year member of Columbus Christian Church where he served as a Deacon and a member of the Church Board. He recently transferred his membership to the First Christian Church in Camp Point. He was also a member of the Plainville Masonic Lodge No. 529. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Dale also enjoyed woodworking, painting stained glass, solving puzzles, collecting antique model tractors, and bowling. He bowled on several different leagues in the Quincy area.  

   Dale farmed in Adams County for many years and had been a painter for Holzgrafe Construction until he began his career at Moorman Manufacturing where he worked for 24 years, retiring in 1991 from the Shipping Department.

   Survivors include his wife, Janet; three children, Vickie Nash (Gary) of Fowler, IL, Allen Gilbert of Quincy and Gail Buchanan (Don) of Davenport, IA; six grandchildren, Tim Nash (Amanda), Tracy Montalvo (Joshua), Jonathon Nash, Brandy Cannady (Lucas), Donovan Buchanan (Rebecca) and Heather Schneider (Steve); six great grandchildren, Sage Cannady, Sawyer Cannady, Carolyn Buchanan, Colin Buchanan, Stella Buchanan and Joshua Montalvo; a brother, Ronald Gilbert (Shirley) of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ted Gilbert and George Gilbert.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.  Burial with Military Honors by the Payson V. F. W. Post 2061 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

   Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Heart Center, The Haven at Sunset Home or the charity of the donor's choice.
