Dave was a member of The Crossing at 48th & Maine where he was active with the Fraternity Men's Group. Dave loved the outdoors, going camping and at age 64 he learned to kayak so he could take his grandchildren with him. During his tenure with the department, he was a patrol officer, a school resource officer, and a planning research officer. He retired on August 16, 2000 as the Calea Accreditation Manager. Following his retirement from the Police Department, Dave worked in Security for the Quincy Public Schools where he received a Letter of Accomodation and later was the Superintendent at the Clayton Work Camp for the Illinois Department of Corrections, retiring after eight years of service.

During his career in Law Enforcement, Dave was honored as Employee of the Month on four occasions by his peers, received a Letter of Accommodation from the department in 1997, was named Law Officer of  the  Year by the Quincy Fraternal Order of Eagles and received the prestigious Theda Jansen Award.

Survivors include his wife, Ann; seven children, Lisa Marie Orban of Quincy, Amy Elizabeth Bair of Quincy, Sarah Lynn Dietrich (fiance', Michael Reardon) of Springfield, IL, Jodie Newbold of Quincy, Michael Newbold (Millie) of Quincy, Monty Newbold (Sally) of Canton, MO and Melinda Miller of Quincy; twenty grandchildren; four great grandchildren with one on the way; three brothers, Ronald Paul Dietrich (Gail) of Maywood, MO, Allan Dietrich of Springfield, IL and Mark Dietrich (Laura Schmidt) of Quincy; three sisters, Sue Flachs (Jack) of Quincy, Dorothy Decker (Dennis) of Quincy and Marty Reddington (Tom) of Missouri; a brother in law, Dean Chandler of Quincy; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts, including Norma Emery of Phoenix, AZ.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I personally have known the loss of a mother and grandmother, and the pain can seem overwhelming. I found comfort in Acts 24:15, where it says: "And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous."
We will see our loved ones again! Jehovah God will resurrect them. I hope this brings some comfort to you in this time of sadness.
