   Leo J. Eldridge, 92, of Quincy died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family at 6:10 p.m. Saturday (January 16, 2016).

  Born November 7, 1923 in Fresno, California.  Leo was the son of Lewis J. and Mary Skinner Eldridge.  He married Maxine D. Snyder on August 11, 1984 in Quincy.  She survives.

   Mr. Eldridge served his country in the Army during World War II.  He seen action in the Battle of the Bulge and in Normandy. Leo received a purple heart and the EAME Theatre Ribbon with five bronze service stars.  Leo loved animals and enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, watching wrestling on t.v. and going to garage sales.  

   He was first employed at Kiefers Grocery, Litteral Manufacturing and then was the owner/operator of the Trading Post in Quincy for several years.  He retired after 10 years from the First Class Professional Cleaning Service in Quincy.

   Survivors include his wife, Maxine; his children, Shirley Trussell of Quincy; Robert Michael Eldridge of Fowler and Leo James Eldridge Jr. (Zula) of Quincy; Carrie Smith (Shawn) of Quincy, Johnny Mutchler (Amber) of Sumner, IL, Loretta Carel (Paul), Chris Nunn, Kenny Forbis, Brenda Akins, David Snyder all of Quincy, Pamela Lindsay of Jacksonville, Illinois, and Cathy Miller of Liberty, IL; his grandchildren Jamie Mann (Eldridge), Jeremy Roberts, Stacie Roberts, Jason Roberts, Tony Roberts, Courtney Chlada, Travis Eldridge, Jeremy Eldridge; Marissa Smith, Amaya Smith, Ashley Whisler (Josh), Dorothy Carel, Paul  James Carel, Raymond Carel, Nicole Carel, Monica Akins, Alexis Akins, Joshua Mutchler, Emmaly Secrest, Jeremy Bowen, Taylor Ballas, Amyi Peikett, Charlie Snyder, Mandy Snyder, Alysha Kindle, Carl Cook Jr (Kelly) Tracy Cook, Lyle Cook, Chad Cook ; 42 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and a sister Sybil Buddendurg of Oregon.

  Mr. Eldridge was preceded in death by his parents, a son in-law Hal Trussell, one brother Bill Eldridge and one sister Pauline Wongzong.
   Memorial services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veterans Home with Pastor John Mitchell officiating.  Military honors will be conducted by the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail.

   Visitation will be held Friday morning from 8:30 until 9:45 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

   In Lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Leo J. Eldridge Memorial Fund.
