DOROTHY G. JOHNSON GRANT

   Dorothy G. Johnson Grant, 100, of Quincy died at 1:00 p.m. Saturday (February 27, 2016) in her home.  Dorothy had formerly lived in California for 28 years and in Carlsbad, NM for 8 years until returning to Quincy.

   Born May 15, 1915 in Hull, IL, Dorothy was the daughter of Charles A. and Rose Louise Pothast Johnson.  She married Bruce Grant on June 4, 1938 in Hull, IL.  He preceded her in death on April 28, 2001.

   Dorothy was a life member of Hull Methodist Church and Union United Methodist Church in Quincy.  She was a 1932 graduate of Hull High School and a 1936 graduate of Western Illinois State Teachers College receiving her degree in Home Economics.  Dorothy taught Home Economics at Seymour High School in Payson and later in Lancaster, CA at the Antelope Joint Union High School for six years until her retirement.  She was a 60 year member and past president of the American Association University Women.  As a young women Dorothy studied at the Quincy Conservatory of Music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ.  She was an accomplished needleworker and belonged to the Quinsippi Needleworkers for 29 years and the American Embroiders Guild for 31 years.  Dorothy loved animals especially cats and dogs.

   Survivors include a niece, Bonita "Bonnie" Brueggemann (Doug) of Hull, IL; two nephews Drew Brueggemann and David Johnson (Judy) of The Villages, FL; one great niece Laura Johnson Patin (Steve) of Anchorage, AK; one great nephew Jeff Johnson (Jo) of Creede, CO; great great nieces and nephews Hayley, Jordan, Justin Patin all of Anchorage, AK and a special friend and caregiver Nancy Paben and other loving caregivers.

   Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother George Johnson and his wife Bernice, a sister Mildred and her husband Robert.

   Funeral services will be held Sunday evening 7:00 p.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Woodard officiating.  Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery.

   Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Union United Methodist Church or to the Hull Methodist Church.

I knew Dorothy as a member of AAUW. She was such an active member as long as she could be and a role model for others. I really enjoyed talking and working with her at various AAUW functions and meetings. I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to know her.
