ROSEMARY  BROWNER-SMITH

   Rosemary Browner-Smith, 91, of Quincy, died at 3:33 pm Sunday (March 20, 2016) at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy.

   Born February 17, 1925 in Marblehead, Illinois, Rosemary was the daughter of John and Christine Wurtz Shields.  She married James Browner on October 25, 1947 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1977.  She later married Al Smith who preceded her in death.

   Rosemary was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Western Catholic Union, Adams County Salon No. 167, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Eagles Auxiliary where she was a Past President.  Rosemary was a "people person" who loved being with her family and friends and volunteering at the Illinois Veteran's Home for many years.  She enjoyed playing Bingo and sports, bowling for many years and following the Quincy Cubs and the athletic programs of Quincy University for many years.

   A 1943 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School and a 1944 graduate of Beauty School, Rosemary worked as a beautician at Ann's Beauty Shop in Quincy until her retirement in 1983.

   Survivors include a son, William Browner (Carrie Trinka) of Fayetteville, AR; a granddaughter, Lia Trinka-Browner (Jason Adams) of Los Angeles, CA; a step daughter, Susan Held (Gary) of South Elgin, IL; three step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

   Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, James Browner and Al Smith; a son, James Browner Jr. in infancy; and a brother, Phillip Shields in infancy.

   Prayer services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
