Mary Lou Newman, 75, of Quincy went to her eternal rest at 4:35 a.m. Saturday (June 4, 2016) in Bradford Villa.

Born September 15, 1940 in Quincy, Mary Lou was the daughter of Melvin and Rita Cutforth Fischer.  She married Gary L. Newman Sr. in Quincy on February 7, 1959.  He preceded her in death on June 29, 1987.

Mary Lou was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church.  She enjoyed collecting angels, loved being outside, flower gardening, bowling and in her younger years playing softball.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and with her very special neighbors in her neighborhood.  She volunteered and served on the board at the Senior Center and also served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Francis.

Mary Lou was employed at Motorola for 15 years until its closing and then worked at the Harris Corporation for 31 years until her retirement in 2006.

Survivors include four daughters, Cynthia Kay Gardner (Kevin), Brenda Wand (Michael), Lisa Birchfield and Sueanne Spencer (Travis) all of Quincy; one son Gary L. Newman Jr. (Liz) of Bayminette, AL; twelve grandchildren Gary Newman III, Bethany Newman (Aaron), Nathan Bruenger, Jason Gardner (Elizabeth), Nichole Davis (Vince), Ryan Wand (Ashley), Renee Deters (Steve), Tyler Wand, Megan White (Wesley), Mason Birchfield, Nolan Spencer and Katelyn Spencer; and eleven great grandchildren and one on the way.  Also surviving are two brothers, Ron Fischer (Karen) and Terry Fischer, both of Quincy; and one sister, Nancie Ebbing (David) of Gainesville, GA.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Marylee; and two sisters, Shirley Zuspan and Betty Kindhart; and a son-in-law, Martin Birchfield.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with Father Donald Blaeser officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 in the funeral home.

So very sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with Mary Lou at Harris. She was a wonderful Lady. Again I'm so sorry.
