WILLIAM B. SHERMAN

   William Brian Sherman known to his friends and family as Bill or Tank, 62 of Quincy died at 1:46 p.m. Friday (June 17, 2016) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born March 11, 1954 in Chula Vista, CA, Bill was the son of Henry William Sherman and Charlsie Elois Russell.  He was adopted at a young age and raised in the home of his grandmother Helen Sherman.

  Bill was a 1972 graduate of Quincy High School.  He was a very talented artist who loved to paint and draw.  Bill enjoyed skydiving, volunteered at the World Free Fall Convention and also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a very active member of the Jaycee's receiving the Jaycee member of the year award in 1983-1984. He helped to start the Jaycee's July 4th Firework Program doing fund raising events and shooting the fireworks.  He also served as Security and Flagman for every Go Kart Race held in South Park.  He served as sports chairman for the Moose Lodge and was an Auxiliary Police Officer who was the Firearms Instructor for the Auxiliary.

  He was employed by the City of Quincy in the Street and Water Department for over 20 years retiring in 2002.  Bill also owned "All Star Sound" doing private parties, karaoke and wedding receptions from 1996 until 2003.

   Survivors include a step-son Shawn Tangy of Ivesdale, IL; two grandchildren Corbin Tangy and Dylan Tangy both of Ivesdale, IL.  Also surviving are three sisters, Jan Olson (Dennis) of San Diego, CA, Helena Fischer (Hobert) of Las Vegas, NV and Kate Nesdale (Brian) of Corona, CA; and several loving nieces and nephews.

  Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Sarah H. Sherman, a sister Sylvia Childs and a daughter-in-law Loralie Tangy.

   Cremation rites have been accorded.  Graveside services will be held Thursday 11:45 a.m. in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.

   Visitation will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 until 11:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

Sorry to hear about Tank! I considered him a good friend. Had many wonderful conversations when we were neighbors.
