HELEN J. SWANSON

   Helen J. Swanson, 81, of Quincy died at 7:05 p.m. Monday (October 17, 2016) in Sunset Home.

   Born September 30, 1935 in Keokuk, Iowa, Helen was the daughter of George L. and Pauline Hillyard Swanson.

   Helen was a longtime member of Union United Methodist Church where she was active with the Fidelis Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed listening to books and taking bus trips to Branson and loved helping others by delivering Meals on Wheels for many years.

   Miss Swanson began her career as a telephone operator in 1952 with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Keokuk, Iowa. She later moved to Quincy and was an operator with Illinois Bell Telephone until 1980 when she moved to Collinsville, Illinois. Helen moved back to Quincy when she retired in 1990 after 38 years of service.

   Surviving is a niece, Dorothy Swanson of St. Louis, MO.

   Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, George A. Swanson.

   Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Woodard officiating.  Burial will be in the Downing Cemetery, Downing, Missouri.

   Visitation will be Thursday from 12:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church or Sunset Home.

I am sorry to read of Helen Jean's passing. I enjoyed working with her at the Keokuk office years ago. She was always a quiet but nice girl to work with and had some fun times bowling also.. Prayers to the family
