   Bernard "Bernie" C. Sharpe, 74, of Newton, Alabama, formerly of Quincy, died Saturday (September 24, 2016) in Dothan, Alabama.

   Born May 13, 1942, Bernie was the son of Bud and Ethel Sharpe.  He married Rita J. McKinney on December 10, 1966, in Quincy.  She survives.

   Bernie was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School where he played football.  After graduating, he served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964.  He enjoyed camping with friends, collecting and restoring Studebaker cars and loved going to car shows with his wife.

   Bernie co-owned and operated a Recycle Paper Company in Decatur, Illinois, for several years until his retirement.

   Survivors include his wife, Rita; a daughter, Andrea Morey (Bob) of Mt. Zion, IL; a son, Chad Sharpe (Kimberly) of Ocala, FL; six grandchildren, Courtney and Whitney Morey both of Mt. Zion, IL, Josh and Cara Sharpe both of Decatur, IL, and Sophia and Nickolas Sharpe both of Ocala, FL; and several loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Sharpe was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dick and Gene Sharpe.

   Graveside services will be held Monday morning (November 7, 2016) 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran's Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.  Military Honors will be conducted by the Scott Air Force Base Funeral Honor Guard and the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37.

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside services.

   Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

   The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
