DORIS J. STARMAN

Doris J. Starman, 87, of Golden, Illinois died at 12:10 a.m. Thursday (November 17, 2016 in the Golden Good Shepherd Home.

Born September 15, 1929, in Clayton, Illinois, Doris was the daughter of John and Doris Moore Barrigar.  She married Arthur "Art" Starman on October 11, 1947 in Quincy and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2013.  Doris and Art loved to travel and they celebrated their 50th and 60th Wedding Anniversaries with a trip to Las Vegas with their family.  When Art became paralyzed from Guillain-Barre Syndrome, Doris became his caretaker until his passing.

Doris was employed for 40 years at Golden Good Shepherd Home, retiring as the supervisor of food services and was a "Farm Hand" helping Art on their farm for 38 years. Following Art's death, Doris stayed active, playing cards, eating with friends and traveling with family seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doris was an active member of her church, first at Elm Grove United Methodist Church in LaPrairie, Illinois and then at Immanuel Lutheran Church after moving to Golden.  Always interested and involved in their daughter's lives, Doris and Art were 4-H Leaders for the Shiloh Straight Shooters 4-H Club for many years, taking the club's skit to State Competition. Doris' talent, which she shared with many friends and family was her ability to write poetery. Her ability to express her passion was exemplified by her emotional or funny poems. Doris was published in a poetry magazine with her poem, "Treasures".

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Cory (Dr. Fred) of Kalispell, MT and Sandra Kessler (Frank) of Macomb, IL; three grandchildren, Liz Jensen (Mark) of Austin, TX, Neil Kessler (Rita) of Birmingham, AL and Mathew Kessler of San Francisco, CA; four great grandchildren, Jessica Jensen, Heather Jensen, Anajulia Kessler and Paco Kessler; two sisters, Kaye Spalding (Dick) of Abilene, TX and Charlie Hall (Gene) of Placerville, CA; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Starman was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; a brother, John Barrigar Jr.; and two sisters, Margaret Jane Gayhart and Mary Randall.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Golden, Illinois with Pastor Linda Murray officiating.  Burial will be in Golden Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2:00 until the time of services at the church.

Carol and Elizabeth,
Our thoughts and Prayers are with you and your family. Kids are never ready to lose their Mother. I saw your Mom on Nov. 7th at the home and she looked so pretty! I enjoyed talking to her. I Pray God gives you comfort during this difficult time.
Much love,
Barb

Sandy & Carol,
My sympathies go out to you and your families. Remembering the good times I had with your mother when I stayed overnight at your home. Doris always had a smile for me. The Elm Grove community has lost another good friend to all those who knew her.
