   Joan Marie Hess, 81, of Quincy died at 1:06 a.m. Sunday (January 8, 2017) in her home.

   Born November 10, 1935, in Meyer, Illinois, Joan was the daughter of George S. and Velma Paden Griggs.  She married James D. Hess on January 19, 1957, in Quincy and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2009.

   Joan was a member of the Riverside Community Church and enjoyed shopping, collecting and repairing dolls, cooking, sewing, listening to Country music and playing cards.  She also loved animals, going to the family farm and spending time with her grandchildren.

   Survivors include a daughter, Vanena "Beanie" Ogle of Quincy; two sons, David Hess of Quincy and Steven Hess (Marcy) of Ursa; 7 grandchildren, William Ogle (Marcy) of Tioga, IL, Tim Ogle (Stephanie) of Loraine, Heath Totsch of California, Micaha Hess of Quincy, Kristel Schroder-Bratten (Blake) of Clayton, IL, Chassidy Schroder-Borgstadt (Todd) of LaGrange, MO and Lindsey Hess of Springfield, IL; 6 great grandchildren; one sister, Connie Rathbun of Quincy; two brothers, Frank Griggs (Barb) of Quincy and Lannie Griggs (Karen) of Liberty; and several loving nieces and nephews.

   Mrs. Hess was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; a daughter, Christine Schroder; a granddaughter, Danielle Hess; one sister, Vera Bradley; one brother, Lloyd Griggs; and a son in law Bill Ogle.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. V. Lee Amsler officiating.  Burial will be in Harwood Cemetery.

   Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Riverside Community Church.
