FLOYD  PRAY  JR.

   Floyd Pray Jr., 86, of Quincy, died at 12:35 p.m. Tuesday (January 10, 2017) in his home.

   Born September 18, 1930 in Brownstown, Indiana, Floyd was the son of Floyd and Nellie Mae Trowbridge Pray Sr.  He married Mary Lu Genenbacher on September 26, 1953 in Quincy. She preceded him in death.

   Mr. Pray served his country as a Corporal in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He earned the Purple Heart for wonds he received in combat.  A highlight of his life was the Honor Flight trip Floyd took in 2014.

   Floyd was a stand-out basketball player in Brownstown and his love of the sport continued throughout his life. He was an AAU official, a longtime member of the Mart Heinen Club and was an avid Quincy Blue Devil Basketball fan.

   Floyd was of the Catholic Faith and he served as an usher at St. Francis Church for many years.

   Floyd was employed for 30 years at Moorman Manufacturing Company until his retirement.  Floyd always enjoyed staying busy and worked as a house painter and drove for Denman Medical for several years.

   If you knew Floyd, you knew he was a kind, gentle man with a sharp sense of humor and ready to help anyone in need.

   Survivors include two daughters, Debbie VonderHaar (James) of Quincy and Nancy Putnam (Richard) of Quincy; a son, John Pray (Tina) of Quincy; ten grandchildren, Cory VonderHaar (Brandi) of St. Louis, MO, Courtney Benfield (Kevin) of Westmont, IL, Andrew VonderHaar (Kelsey) of Quincy, Alex VonderHaar of Quincy, Megan Stone (Brian) of Quincy, Logan Putnam of Quincy, Levi Putnam of Quincy, Kreagen Pray of Hannibal, MO, Jessica Eager (Kyle) of Lompoc, CA and Austin Pray of Quincy; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Porter of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Pray was preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson, Gage Eager; three brothers; and one sister.

   Memorial services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Tomko officiating.  Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Sunset Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Friday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight.
