DENNIS PENROD

Dennis Penrod, 56, of Payson, went to his heavenly home at 10:35 p.m. Tuesday (February 7, 2017).

Born December 16, 1960, in Louisville, Kentucky, Dennis was the son of Delbert and Barbara Brown Penrod. He married Kim Huffaker on October 6, 1984, in Galesburg, Illinois, and she survives.

Dennis was a 1979 graduate of Rochester High School.  He was a member of the Payson Southern Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon.  He was an active member of the Illinois Baptist State Association and Moderator for the Bay Creek Baptist Association.  Dennis served 25 years on the Payson/Fall Creek Fire Department as a Captain and Secretary-Treasurer and had also served on the Payson Town Board for 10 years.

Dennis was an avid supporter and fan of the Payson Seymour High School Indians and enjoyed watching the University of Illinois basketball games and the Minnesota Vikings football games.  He enjoyed going to the shooting range, tinkering and repairing various things, listening to music and playing his guitar. He most of all enjoyed being with family, especially with his grandchildren.

Dennis was employed at the RL Hoener Equipment Company since 2002 as a Service Technician and Installer.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kevin Penrod (Keri) of Payson and Kyle Penrod of Payson; two grandchildren, Chase Thomas Penrod and James Wesley Penrod, both of Payson; his parents, Delbert and Barbara Penrod of Rochester, IL; a brother, Douglas Penrod (Debbie) of Athens, IL; a sister, Leanna Barber (Mark) of Riverton, IL; and several very special loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. Penrod was preceded in death his paternal grandparents, James Wesley and Helen Penrod and maternal grandparents, Harry and Beulah Brown.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Payson/Fall Creek Fire House in Payson with Pastor John Gross officiating.  Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Payson and Monday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the Payson/Fall Creek Fire House.

Memorials may be made to the Payson/Fall Creek Fire Protection District.

Kim, Kevin, Kyle,
We love you, and our heart aches for your loss. We know that Dennis is with Jesus and we celebrate that. Dennis was unique and we will sorely miss his point of view. Not only that, but his Christian guidance and direction, and his vast knowledge on everything in our Church building and with our Association and with life in general. Dennis could always make us laugh.
