MAYBELLE "CHIC" SELBY

Maybelle L. "Chic" Selby, 86, of Ewing, Missouri, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday (February 21, 2017) in Good Samaritan Home in Quincy.

Born May 16, 1930 in Caldwell, Idaho, Maybelle was the daughter of Ray and Jennie Dowell Shortridge Sr.  She married Donald James Selby on December 24, 1949 in Fowler, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on December 27, 1993.

Chic was an active member of the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Ewing, Missouri.  She enjoyed dancing, had a kind heart and loved any and all animals and especially enjoyed attending horseshows that her daughters participated in. Chic loved the outdoors, tending to her flower gardens, but her passion was working on the family farm, doing any job that needed to be done.

In addition to her work on the farm, Chic had also been employed at Motorola and she later owned and operated Wood Speciality Company, which made wooden nameplates and desk sets.

Chic was devoted to her family and cherished every moment she spent with them.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamala Jo Armbruster of Quincy and Paula Jean Chapman (Michael) of Ewing, MO; three grandchildren, Parker Armbruster (Erin), Jamie Chapman and Sommer Darnell (Brad); six great grandchildren, Aiden Armbruster, Adalyn Armbruster, Ashton Armbruster, Sean Davis, Braydon Darnell and Drew Darnell; a brother, Ray Shortridge Jr. (Alma Arntzen) of Quincy; two sisters, Thelma Crouch of  Maywood, MO and Betty Geisendorfer of Quincy; two sisters in law, Dorothy Selby of Kirksville, MO and Bernice Selby of Adair, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Selby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; and two sisters, Marie Fielding and Nellie Brinkman; and many brothers in law and sisters in law.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Jesse Rogers officiating.  Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.

Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.

Sweet Aunt Chic, We got one of our favorite dogs from her. She was a puppy of her "Jolie" and was very special. She always asked us about her. I'm sure she's taking care of all of her "puppies" in heaven. Love, Randy, Gyla & Kassi Elmore
